Congratulations!

Congratulations to Lizzie and Isabelle who won the 'name the goats' competition at our open day. Taina's twin goat kids will be named Hansel and Gretel.

Open Farm Sunday

Open Farm Sunday was a real success. It was rather cloudy but actually quite warm and the rain was held off, which was great. There was a really nice atmosphere and everyone enjoyed themselves. We had a large variety of different stalls, from spinning and wool products to free fruit and vegetables, as well as a willow weaving workshop and a pottery painting workshop. Some lucky visitors had a chance to meet Puddle, our characterful Aylesbury duck, and I know he enjoyed the attention! So thanks to all who participated - stall holders, workshops, volunteers, and visitors, for making it a lovely day for everyone involved. We're already looking forward to next year's open day!

OPEN FARM SUNDAY JUNE 1ST

With only 3 days to go the excitement is building up on the farm. Everything is organised, the good weather is being willed to continue, and the countdown has begun. And we have a really exciting day planned for this one! There will be bric-a-brac stalls, art & craft stalls, craft workshops, vegetable tasting, an opportunity to get up close to some of our small animals, spinning demonstrations, birds of prey, and much more, so please don't miss it. The farm will be open at the usual times, but the event will be running from 1 - 4pm. We look forward to seeing you!

Baby Goats

Taina gave birth to twins last week - one boy and one girl. They are very cute, and full of the joys of spring! For photos check out our Farm Babies page.

Goat Shearing

We had our Angora goats shorn today. Check out the 'recent events' page for info and photos.

New Animals!

Are you excited? Well we are! Its great to see some new faces at the farm, and the goats in particular have some really fab faces! Allow us to introduce Teresa, Tinsel, Tabitha, Poppy, and Edward. Teresa, Tinsel, and Tabitha are 3 lovely Angora goats who have been kindly donated to the farm. We don't know them very well yet, but it looks like they're going to be a great addition to the farm, with loads of personality. Poppy is a young Saddleback piglet, who is already finding her feet here at the farm with her new friend Pepper, one of Olive's piglets. She's black & white and really cute! Edward is a cow who has come to share the paddock with our lovely ladies. He's a proper black & white dairy cow, and he's very friendly!

The moment you've all been waiting for!

Yes, its true - everyone's favourite sheep (Bambi) is now up for adoption at the farm! Remember the lamb who this time last year would always be found skipping around the yard? That's the one!

New Adoptions

We now have two new adoptions available - Bubble & Squeek, the daughters of Matilda and Eric, and who are now about to have babies of their own! Check out the Small Animal page in Farm Animals for a quick look at our cheeky Guinea Pigs.

First Lamb of The Year!

We are pleased to announce the arrival of our first lamb of the year! She is a female lamb born to one of our Wensleydale ewes last night. And she is rather unusual! You see, Wensleydale sheep are very white, and very fluffy, and this little lamb is black! She hasn't even been around for 24 hours, and we already know that she is going to be a very special addition to the farm!

DUCKLINGS!

Yes! They've hatched! And you must come and see them! They are sooooooooo cute, and they grow up amazingly fast, so they won't be small, yellow, and fluffy forever! You can visit them in the small animal area - just follow the sound of cheeping!

New Year - 2008!

Wishing you a Happy New Year from all staff, committee and volunteers at Gorse Hill City Farm! And we know its going to be a great one, as the team at the farm are working on some exciting ideas for the coming year, including the introduction of quite a few new furry faces! Don't forget to keep checking our website to be the first in the know!

Christmas Chicks & Fancy Dress!

Everyone knows that chicks are hatched in spring, around about easter, when we get our eggs and cute yellow fluffy replicas. Well at Gorse Hill City Farm we're having Christmas chicks too! There are even some hatching as I write, so why not come and visit the farm's Christmas chicks?! In my last blog I mentioned that staff are getting out their santa hats for a festive run up to Christmas - well this weekend they're going a little bit further. On Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd December the staff and volunteers will have spontaneously turned into creatures ranging from santa's elves to scooby-doo, a sight not to be missed!

Christmas Cheer

Welcome to our new blog page at Gorse Hill City Farm! This is where you can read all about the latest news at the farm. Come here for information on events and animal news, and keep checking, you don't want to miss anything!

This week on the farm, we are getting festive! Farm staff are pulling out their santa hats, and the rabbits, guinea pigs, and chicks in the small animal area are grooving away to the good old classic Christmas tunes. This Wednesday from 1:30 until 3pm we are holding a Christmas Card and wrapping paper workshop, with entrance at just £1 per person! We are open all throughout Christmas, so if you feel like getting some fresh air and walking of the effects of that scrumptious Christmas dinner, why not pop up to the farm and have a wander round?
